In a recent visit to Australia, Britain’s International Trade Secretary Liz Truss announced, free movement between Australia and UK would be explored post-Brexit as part of a trade deal. Under this proposal, Australians will be allowed to live and work freely in UK and vice-versa.
MsTruss added that the arrangement was ‘absolute priority’ and the deal would be signed in a few months. She also highlighted the fact that Australians want to come and live and work in Britain, and Brits want to come and live and work in Australia, which is one of the reasons this arrangement is being explored.
The two nations share a lot of things in common including language, a deeply entwined political history, a democratic system, the Queen, common law, and respect for freedom. The deal will therefore benefit both the countries immensely. New opportunities inUK’s financial services or technology industry are flagged as possible outcomes for the UK’s trade deal with Australia. Australia’s Trade Minister Simon Birmingham said the country would look to secure greater access to the UK agriculture and services sectors as part of any deal.
Currently Aussies face a lot of challenges to work and settle in UK. Increased prices of mobility schemes and healthcare, high retraining costs and stringent identity checks have made life hard for Australians who want to settle in UK. With the proposed relaxations, citizens of both the countries will now be able to overcome such hurdles and live a happy life.
The post-Brexit future for both the countries seem to be bright and the citizens should grab the opportunity to enjoy the benefits.
